Itinerary

Day 1 Airport / Negambo

“Ayubowan” On arrival at the recently refurbished Modern and State of the art International Airport, you will be blessed to get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality; Representative from Nawamini Travels will welcome you at the Airport & receive to Colombo

Negombo is a modest beach town located close to Bandaranaike International Airport. With a stash of decent hotels and restaurants to suit all pockets, a friendly local community, an interesting old quarter and a reasonable (though polluted) beach, Negombo is a much easier place to get your Sri Lankan feet than Colombo.

Even though it could never compete in a beauty contest against many Sri Lankan beaches, Negombo beach, which stretches north from the town right along the hotel strip before fading into a palm tree distance, has been recently tidied up and, in front of the big hotels, is now quite pleasant. Sadly, the water does have a distinct brown color thanks to estuary run-off and pollution, but it’s no longer bad enough to stop people swimming.

Visit Negombo Fish Market

Dinner and overnight Stay at Negombo

Day 2Colombo / Pinnawela / Dambulla

After Breakfast at Hotel Proceed to Dambulla

On the way visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage – At this orphanage you will find elephants of all ages which are abandoned or otherwise unable to fend for themselves by way of being injured. They are looked after with loving care until such time they are ready to work or be freed back to the jungles.

The unique feature is that after lunch Depart to Dambulla

The central point of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle and the most convenient base for excursions to the Ancient historical cities – Anuradhapura 60 minutes, Polonnaruwa 45 minutes, Sigiriya/Dambulla 30 minutes, Ritigala 10 minutes and Minneriya National Park (site of the renowned “Gathering” of over 300 Elephant between July and September) 15 minutes. Though in the “Dry Zone” of the country, thanks to the genius of ancient kings the Sri Lankan “dry zone” is anything but dry, with hundreds of lakes and reservoirs connected by an elaborate network of canals making up a fascinating irrigation system which also provides some of the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery and fertile habitat for Sri Lanka’s incredible bio-diversity. This contributes to a large range of activity in the area – village and forest walks, bird and wildlife watching, Elephant Back Safari, cycling, trekking and boating. Habarana is the location of two of the country’s best hotels – The Cinnamon Lodge and The Chaaya Village, idyllically located by a peaceful lake and in extensive landscaped gardens which retain most of the original forest trees.

Precede the journey to climb the Sigiriya “Lion Rock”

SIGIRIYA
Buddhist monastic settlements were established during the 3rd century BCE in the western and northern slopes of the boulder-strewn hills surrounding the Sigiriya rock. Several rock shelters or caves were created during this period. These shelters were made under large boulders, with carved drip ledges around the cave mouths. Rock inscriptions are carved near the drip ledges on many of the shelters, recording the donation of the shelters to the Buddhist monastic order as residences. These were made in the period between the 3rd century BCE and the 1st century CE.
In 477 CE, Kashyapa, the king’s son by a non-royal consort, seized the throne from King Dathusena, following a coup assisted by Migara, the King’s nephew and army commander. The rightful heir, Moggallana, fearing for his life, fled to South India. Afraid of an attack by Moggallana, Kashyapa moved the capital and his residence from the traditional capital of Anuradhapura to the more secure Sigiriya. During King Kashyapa’s reign (477 to 495 CE), Sigiriya was developed into a complex city and fortress.[1][2] Most of the elaborate constructions on the rock summit and around it, including defensive structures, palaces, and gardens, date from this period.
